History
The need to create a common institution to operate several event venues was already in existence in 1962. The Duisburg Operations Corporation (Duisburger Betriebsgesellschaft mbH.) was founded as a result.
In 1982 a further department was privatised by the City of Duisburg. With the name Duisburg Advertising and Tourism Corporation (Duisburger Werbe- und Touristik GmbH), the company was responsible for city information and advertising for the City of Duisburg and its institutions, and for events related to the promotion of the city. Travel offices belonging to the Duisburg Tourism were also incorporated.
In 1995 the City Marketing Corporation was regrouped in response to a statutory change. Its aim was to undertake marketing measures on behalf of the City of Duisburg. Over and above that, the new corporation was supposed to serve the fostering of economic and socio-cultural changes in structure and support the cooperation with associations, organisations and businesses.
Since its transformation from the Duisburg Agentur to the Duisburg Marketing GmbH in 2003, the corporation is responsible for the financial and human resources departments, communications, Tourist-Information, venues, the "Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord" (Duisburg-Nord Country Park), the festivals office, events andCity-Management.
